Atif is a PhD in Epidemiology who lives at the intersection between research, science communication, operational decision making, and strategy. I’m particularly interested in distilling large amounts data into information, and subsequently into actionable insights. We collect lots of data – but it’s only useful if we can turn it into insights that can inform decision making. Feel free to connect with me on Twitter @DrEpid

Epidemiology is a broad field that encompasses methods and techniques used to address issues that affect populations. Or, put more eloquently “Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of disease, and disease related states, in a population of individuals.” There’s more information on my first post, available here.

In short – Epidemiologists study who is getting sick, what is making them sick, and how sick they are getting. You can replace “sick” with any health outcome there, and there’s an epidemiologist looking at it. We do other stuff too, but that’s a story for another day.
